The ethos of the Sheffield Support Group is to support activities to enable people with Parkinson’s to build physical and mental wellness through participation in social events, learning and creative activities with like-minded people.

The group is run for the charity by volunteers who are living with Parkinson’s themselves, or who have experience of Parkinson’s. It is supported by professional staff to:

  • Offer information, friendship, and support to those with Parkinson’s, their carers, families and friends
  • Organise or assist with events and social activities for members
  • Raise funds for research to support people affected by Parkinson’s

We believe that doing something positive for yourself is good for the soul. We arrange classes and activities that include:

  • Posture and general fitness, Boxing, Pilates, Tango, Voice (singing), Saturday morning walks and monthly meetings, with a speaker, and an opportunity to meet others over a cup of tea.
  • A monthly drop in Parkinson’s Café held in Parson Cross Community Development Forum
  • A Positively Parkinson’s” group that holds monthly evening socials at the Waggon and Horses restaurant/pub on Abbeydale Road and is aimed at people aged 66 years and under.
  • A Supporters Group for for those living with a person with Parkinson's

We also signpost to privately run classes and other resources that may be of interest to people affected by Parkinson’s in the Sheffield area, e.g.:

  • PD Warrior programme

  • Personalised strength and fitness

  • A machine-based circuits class.

We follow the values of Parkinson’s UK by putting People first and at the centre of decisions, Uniting all those who are affected by Parkinson’s in Sheffield, Pioneering with a can-do attitude and we are Driven to find a cure and offer support until one is found.

Volunteers needed! We need to recruit volunteers to help us run the group. Do you have an hour or two per month to spare? If so we would be delighted to hear from you. For more information please get in touch with Rose Crawley Tel. 0344 25 3634 email [email protected]
