We have the pleasure of hearing the interesting talk from Andy Cassy:
Andy never expected to actually take part in the cell replacement treatment. He was happy being part of the control group cohort and the 6 monthly visits to Cambridge for a barrage of regular tests, which also helped him to assess how his condition was changing over time.
In fact the Transeuro study, as it was then known, was one of the earliest research activities he joined back in 2012, two years after his early onset diagnosis at the age of 44.
It was after his second invitation to volunteer as a trial participant in early 2024, for the revised and renamed 'STEM-PD' phase 1 clinical study, that it all became quite real and literally life changing.
This time round his personal circumstances and progression had changed, as had the revised study protocol and cell product 'technology'. Now the timing felt right for the first in-human trial to be an acceptable risk he was willing to take and help move the research forward.
Andy is one of eight participants in this European study, and the only UK person. He's delighted to be here today to share his journey with you all.
He also has a blog where you can follow his mission, "Parkinson's with a Purpose", which can be found at: PwaP.blog
Free to attend but we do ask people to bring a sharing dish for lunch and any serving implements.
