World Parkinson's Day Community Weekend

World Parkinson’s Day takes place on Saturday 11 April.

Lyme Regis District Parkinson’s Support Group is planning a very special, weekend-long community event. We will be lighting up Lyme’s beautiful Langmoor Gardens blue for the weekend and holding a weekend long community event on Lyme Regis seafront. We are scheduling a comprehensive mix of live speakers and influencers, poster campaigns and information boards in the Jubilee Pavilion aimed at not only delivering professional advice and information about Parkinson’s but also raising its profile within the local community and more widely across the Southwest.

Our plans will be supported by social media, PR and marketing campaigns throughout the region as we seek to spread the word and reach as wide an audience as possible. We will also be conducting some research / social audit throughout the event, and hosting a VIP reception for local dignitaries, our speakers and local supporters. Further surprises will hopefully include Richard Blackmore promoting his Atlantic rowing challenge and a series of musical interludes.

The Jubilee Pavilion comprises of two open plan spaces joined by a welcome desk. One side of the building will utilise a series of floor standing display boards which will tell the Parkinson’s story: its history and symptoms, fundamental statistics about its growth, the search for that illusive cure, and more.

On the other side we will be hosting a series of presentations and Q&A sessions that we are calling our Seaside Chats. The presentations are an opportunity for Parkinson’s specialists to inform and help the local community in and around Lyme Regis learn how to manage their personal Parkinson’s journeys more effectively and provide reassurance that they and their families, friends and carers are not alone.

Four speakers will deliver their presentations twice during the day on Saturday 11 April and then again on Sunday 12 April. Each session will be 30 minutes long including a Q&A.

Finally, we will be holding a VIP reception on Saturday evening and inviting dignitaries, presenters, local supporters and members of the press to attend.
