Stirling, Parkinson's Table Tennis Sessions

Where: Thistle Centre, Stirling, Unit SU 26 – Directly across from Barrhead and Hays Travel

When: Every Wednesday 2pm till 3 30pm 

The activity focuses on learning the basics of Table Tennis and developing table tennis skills led by the coaches. The players play games in a fun relaxed atmosphere.  Table Tennis is a growing participation sport in the Parkinson’s community. The benefits of playing table tennis in helping Parkinson’s players include:

  • Improving balance
  • Improving hand eye co-ordination
  • Stimulating mental alertness and concentration
  • Increasing dopamine levels
  • All ability levels, from complete beginner to players who have played in the past are welcome
  • The coach will adapt the session to players at different standards
  • Partners and carers are welcome and can participate if needed
  • Bats and Balls are provided to players who are advised to wear trainers when playing

Who is leading it and what else might someone need to know?

  • The session Is led by Mando Notarangelo who Is also a Level 2 UK lead Table Tennis coach and a county standard player.
  • Mando along with Robin one of his volunteers has also completed Parkinson's Exercise & Physical Activity course
  • The Thistle Centre has mobility access. Players however during the session will need to use the centre toilets if required.
  • We have five active tables and a Table with a permanent table tennis robot.
  • The group currently has around nine regulars so there is scope for more attendees.
