Sporting Memories Cafe

The Sporting Memories cafe is an initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for older adults by reducing isolation and improving mental and physical wellbeing.

By celebrating the love of sport, we create a warm, supportive environment where participants can share memories, enjoy meaningful social interaction, and boost their cognitive health.

Within our group, we focus on achieving four key objectives through sports quizzes, engaging activities, guest speakers, and more. These objectives are:

  • Promote Reminiscence: Using your understanding of sports as a trigger to bring back pleasant memories and encounters.
  • Enhance Social Interaction: Establish a community setting where people may interact and exchange tales.
  • Enhance Mental Health: To fight depression and loneliness, provide emotional support and cognitive stimulation.
  • Promote Inclusivity: Involve people with different skill levels to make sure everyone is respected and feels at home.

This is a group for anyone and everyone who wants to reminisce about sport and build friendships through laughter and conversation. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive community that welcomes participants from all walks of life. Although we are not a dementia café, we do have members who are living with dementia, and they are fully supported by our staff, all of whom are Dementia Friends.
