Sing to Beat Parkinson's
Sing to Beat Parkinson’s is a music therapy group run by Rose, a neurological music therapist for Chiltern Music Therapy.
We meet every Monday in Southdown Methodist Church, arriving at 2pm for half an hour of informal chatting over coffee and sharing information before the group begins properly.
This is a great way to combat social isolation and share knowledge and information regarding Parkinson’s for both attendees and their partners / carers if they wish to join, as well as building friendships.
From 2.30pm to 3.30pm we sing and engage in a range of music and movement exercises tailored to help combat the effects of Parkinson’s. These include drumming and partner exercises with musical instruments, as well as singing favourites from the Beatles, Elvis and even sea shanties - we have a wide repertoire range!
The group is fun and energetic, and attendees are encouraged to share songs and artists that they enjoy so that the group is motivational and personal to the people who join each week.
From a session you can expect to have worked on areas including breathing exercises, balance, coordination and vocal tone and volume, all in a fun and friendly environment.
Cost £6 (not including carers/supporters).
Partners and carers are welcome to join, and there are no booking requirements - but please feel free to contact Chiltern Music Therapy first if you are interested in joining our group! https://www.chilternmusictherapy.co.uk/enquiry
