Sheffield Walking Group

The Sheffield Support group walking group meet every second Saturday of the month from 10.30am to 12.30pm, ready to walk at 10.30am.

Walking and talking is a great way to get to know people. It’s good to talk with people who have experience of living with Parkinson’s and we welcome carers, family members and friends and their dogs to join us too!

The walks are led by Bhanu and/or Melanie, two physiotherapists. As well as walking and talking with peers, take advantage of the physiotherapy expertise; you may glean tips about your posture, fitness or balance to improve your walking.

The distance of the walks average at 2km depending on each park’s layout, but all have benches along the route to stop and stretch or rest, plus the pace is easy so we can chat.

The walk plus refreshments afterwards usually lasts up to 2 hours depending on how long you stay to chat afterwards and what the weather is like!

Clothing: Check the weather and dress accordingly. We sit outside for our cuppa at the end of the walk unless it is too rainy, so bear this in mind.

Cost: Taking part is free (although donations are always welcomed!) and can be fun.

Booking requested: There have been occasions where we have had to cancel at the last minute so we would appreciate knowing your interest in attending and a contact phone number by emailing [email protected] or calling Val on 0114 262 0468.

Please note: By attending without booking, it is assumed you have read the conditions of the walk and can manage the distances without assistance. If you do require assistance to walk safely, you must bring someone with you as a companion as the walk leader(s) will not be available to help. We also cannot contact you should the walk be cancelled at the last minute.

Details of our next walk on Saturday 14 March at Millhouses Park:

Meet at Millhouses Park café, ready to walk at 10.30am.

Address and parking: The park is on Abbeydale Road South. It is long with a car park at either end (both Pay and Display), or free road parking on the main (busy) road. The café is between turn offs for Pingle Road and Dobcroft Road, and not far from the Waggon and Horses pub.

Booking: Please let us know your interest in attending by the end of Thursday 12 March; sooner if you can.

Bhanu and Melanie lead the walk which has 2 routes. We walk together from the café along the river towards Abbey Lane at a pace that allows chatter whilst walking. Whichever of the two routes people choose, we will return to the café for drinks and more chat if you have the time.

  • 3km route: Those happy with inclines and woodland paths will complete a longer walk, looping up and through Hutcliffe Wood before returning to the cafe. There are no benches in the woodland part of the route.
  • 2km route: Remain on the flatter and paved park paths on a shorter route. As well as walking and talking with peers, take advantage of the physiotherapy expertise; you may glean tips about your posture, fitness or balance to improve your walking.
