Rhythm For The Brain
Sessions provided by Beat It Percussion CIC. Facilitated by Lynn, our lead practitioner, who is very experienced in leading groups.
This is a social activity with the focus on physical activity. It is a light activity suitable for all levels of ability and fitness. We use small hand-drums and percussion items to stimulate the brain, give a gentle physical workout and have fun. You don't need any experience or musical knowledge to join us.
The Dorothy Parkes Centre where we hold the sessions is a very friendly, active centre with lots of things going on and we can help introduce you to these activities as well as other things at nearby community venues.
We encourage carers and friends to join in so that everyone feels comfortable and not self-conscious, also, you may be surprised by how much you get out of the session yourself.
To keep the experience personal we restrict the number of participants to 16, this includes people affected by Parkinson's as well as Parkinson's patients. Please book to reserve your space.
Key areas that we work on include:
- Cognitive skills: short term memory, sequencing, directional skills, co-ordination
- Social skills: confidence building, learning new skills, interacting with peers and professionals, making new friends
- Physical benefits: dexterity, balance, strength/grip, co-ordination, gentle exercise
Please note that parking is not available at Dorothy Parkes, apart from several disabled spaces outside the building. Street parking on nearby roads is usually easy to find.
Sessions are free but a small donation to help with expenses will be introduced from January 2027.
