PD Exercise Classes
The classes are led by an experienced neuro physiotherapist with experience of prescribing exercise to those with Parkinson’s. Kelly Rogers will be running the class who is one of our senior physiotherapists. The exercises will focus on all areas like mobility, balance, strength, cardiovascular as different exercises will be prescribed for different practices.
We always advise to bring a water bottle and comfy clothes/shoes which you are able to move freely in. If you have specific equipment you would like to bring, you can of course do so but we will provide various equipment.
● The class is run by a specialist physiotherapist and a rehabilitation assistant (dependent on numbers)
● The class is circuit based and will require you to move around between stations independently.
● We are unable to provide one to one support throughout the class but can give guidance as we go and will be able to adapt exercises to suit you.
● We have a maximum of 10-12 people in a class to ensure safety and maintain the quality of the sessions. Depending on size, we will sometimes offer a rehab assistant to be another pair of hands to ensure safety.
● In your first class we may need to complete some assessment measures and will go through the type of exercise
we will be doing - this will be the same for everyone in the first session.
To come to the class you need to be able to:
● Walk independently (with or without an aid) over 50 metres indoors.
● Stand for 5 minutes.
● Be safe to balance and exercise in standing on your own or with hand support.
● Be medically fit with no ongoing investigations - for example for heart problems or low/high blood pressure
(discuss with therapist if you are unsure).
● Be able to follow the verbal instructions provided by the therapist.
To attend the class you will need to complete the screening form and return it to us either on the day or by email to:
