Parkinson’s Tai Chi - Seated

Tai Chi classes for the Parkinson’s group, led by Nick Taylor from the Devon Tai Chi Centre.

Students are invited to take part and follow a series of gentle warm up and stretching exercises, followed by simple breathing exercises and then the Tai Chi activity itself.

The focus is on maintaining upper body mobility, with joint mobility exercises, deeper breathing exercises and a series of flow exercises that are co- ordinated and require mindfulness to follow and repeat.

These classes cater for most levels of fitness, and are suitable for all ages, i.e. I have a 94 year lady in another seated class that I run who loves coming for her weekly Tai Chi session.

When numbers allow, it’s possible for carers to join in, they can also chat with other carers in our second room or access Carers Torbay for advice and support.

Sensible, soft soled shoes, such as trainers are the best, and clothing that is loose and comfortable, that will allow the body freedom of movement.

The building is fully accessible, and the library is also very close to train and bus transport.

The cost is £6 per session. Numbers are limited so booking is essential.
