Parkinson's MEDS Exercise

What is Parkinson’s M.E.D.S class?

We hope you will love the format of the class: Moving, Exercising, Dancing and Socialising. Lynda Blyth-Phillips has created an inspiring and delightful dance/exercise class that allows the participant to focus on individual parts of the body through specialised “Parkinson’s Exercises”. The class consists of both chair and standing routines that work through the whole of the body and individual joints. Music accompanies all the exercises and accumulates in a dance at the end of the session.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move in and shoes that will not restrict the movement of the feet.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just bring a happy smile and the willingness to give it a go!

Is it the same exercises each week?

We run the same exercises over an eight-ten week course and have three courses per year.

Do I need a partner?

No you do not need a partner although the class is also open to carers and spouses to accompany you.

What if I can’t do all the exercises?

Everybody in the class is at a different stage of their Parkinson’s journey. It is entirely up to you how much you wish to participate. Exercises can also be adapted if needed.

What happens during the session?

Everybody arrives from 1.15pm and we usually get started about 1.30pm, with our dance/exercise class finishing at 2.30pm. We have tea, coffee, biscuits and socialising time from 2.30pm to 3pm.
