Parkinson's high-intensity exercise class - Aberdeen

This class offers a high intensity circuit based exercise class for people with Parkinson's. The class is supervised by qualified Physiotherapists, and Physiotherapy students who have undergone Parkinson's specific training.

The exercise consists of a group-based warm up followed by a circuit programme, including between 8-10 stations. Stations include strength, balance, flexibility and aerobic style exercise. Each station can be personalised to individual ability.

The class finishes with a cool down. Current participants have setup their own social network via Whats App, and commonly meet for a coffee after the class. New attendees would be most welcome to join this, should they wish to do so.

Participants undergo an assessment over 6 months and will be provided with a personalised home exercise programme to support exercise participation out with the class.

No age restriction is applied to this class, but it is aimed at those who feel comfortable participating in higher intensity exercise.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and wear light clothing suitable to exercise in. Partners/supporters/carers are welcome to participate as well as required.

Participants wishing to join the class are asked to contact Julie Jones ([email protected]) who will provide an overview of the class and conduct a health screening to ensure that the class is suitable to meet and individuals need. This screening is conducted over the phone and takes between 5-10 minutes. Following screening participants are offered a taster session, prior to committing to attend. There is no cost for this class and free accessible car parking is available when registered with the class.
