Parkinson's Exercise Class, Fraserburgh

What is the activity?

Classes follow a structured and supportive format and include:
● Warm up and joint mobilisation
● Strength and balance exercises
● A main exercise circuit focused on mobility, posture, and stamina
● Cool down stretching
● Functional extras such as: Hand and finger exercises, Grip variation exercises, Big arm movement and
Adapted Tai Chi movements

The Monday class offers seated exercise options throughout.
The Wednesday class is mainly standing, with exercises adapted as needed.
Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace and rest whenever required.

The class works on:
● Balance and stability
● Coordination and reaction time
● Mobility and posture
● Strength for daily activities
● Cardiovascular stamina
● Confidence and movement control

The classes are suitable for:
● People with a new Parkinson’s diagnosis with mild or well controlled symptoms
● People in the maintenance phase experiencing gradual progression of symptoms
● Individuals finding everyday activities more challenging, but who are able to participate in guided exercise
 

Exercises are adapted to individual ability and progressed safely. Partners, carers, or family members are welcome to attend to support participants and may join in where appropriate.

Are there any clothing or equipment requirements, such as water bottles or non-slip shoes?
● Comfortable clothing suitable for movement
● Nonslip footwear recommended
● Water bottle encouraged
● All chairs and equipment are provided

Who is leading it and what else do you need to know?
The sessions are delivered by a qualified Live Life Aberdeenshire Health & Wellbeing Instructor, experienced in supporting people living with long term conditions, including Parkinson’s.  Instructors focus on safe progression, encouragement, and individual support.

Is there anything about access to the venue that would be useful to know?
● The venue is accessible
● Seating and space are available for all exercises
● Participants can discuss any access or mobility needs in advance
