Neurological Walking Football

A dedicated Walking Football programme for participants living with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Stroke, in partnership with the EFL in the Community, Parkinson’s UK and the Football Association.
The programme is focused on promoting resilience, strength, and camaraderie through football; offering not only a chance to get active but also to foster a sense of community and empowerment. Brewing strength in every stride despite the challenges posed by neurological conditions.

Walking Football is an inclusive version of the beautiful game that delivers the fun and passion without the running or contact. No experience is necessary, only a desire to join in is required. Our Neurological Walking Football project has been designed to engage and support people living with Parkinson’s (male and female) to become more physically and socially active. Sessions are delivered by qualified and experienced coaches to ensure they are safe, fun and inclusive of all ability levels. The benefits of being physically active are well researched and it has been proven to help manage physical symptoms, improve sleep and cognitive functioning of those living with Parkinson’s.

Sessions are designed to be low-impact, and we encourage you to go at your own pace with lots of opportunities for rest breaks if needed. A typical session includes an all- body warm up to prepare for the activity as well as fun football drills and games to improve teamwork and technical skills. For those more competitively minded there are also opportunities to represent the club when playing against other Parkinson’s Walking Football teams from across the UK. The project aims to provide lots of opportunities to learn new skills, share experiences with like-minded people, and make social connections. There is time included for a post session social component with refreshments provided in the Burton Albion Community Football Centre next to the pitch.

Sessions are £5 per player, with your first taster session free.
There is plenty of parking next to the centre/ pitch with accessible toilets within the centre next to the pitch.

Partners and carers are welcome to watch and socialise with refreshments provided in the Football centre overlooking the pitch.

Wear comfortable clothes and non slip trainers and ideally bring a water bottle. Football boots are preferable once you begin to play regularly.

Please feel free to contact us in advance if you wish to discuss further or alternatively come along, watch the fun, join in when you're ready and take it from there!

We look forward to you joining us- Brewing Strength in Every Stride.
