Live Life Aberdeenshire, Online Parkinson's Class

Live Life Aberdeenshire has developed a programme specifically designed to support people with Parkinson’s Disease to be active and live well.

Who is the Programme for?
The programme is aimed at people living with a new diagnosis who may have mild/controlled symptoms and those living in the maintenance phase who are experiencing a gradual progression of symptoms, resulting in everyday activities becoming more challenging.

How does the Programme work?
You can refer yourself using the self-referral form, or a health care professional can refer you to the programme. Once Life Life Aberdeenshire has received your referral form a staff member will contact you to find out more about you, explain the programme and discuss the best exercise option for you. More information can be found here and a link to the self-referral form can be found here

Participants receive 12 weeks of sessions for free initially through their referral programme then if you wish to continue you can pay for classes in blocks of 6 weeks or through membership which allows you to attend your local facility for classes included in the price.  It's £4.20 a class or included in the classes membership which is £12 per month on direct debit.

What happens in a class?
The class offers seated or standing options for all exercises and participants are encouraged to work at their own pace.  We start with a warm up and mobilisation then move on to strength and balance exercises.  The main section is a circuit or exercises which are all aimed at improving mobility and posture while improving stamina.  For the cool down you will complete stretches weekly and add in some hand/finger exercises, facial exercises or some adapted Tai Chi.
