Express Yourself Speech and Language Classes
Do you struggle to make yourself heard? Are you often asked to repeat yourself? Do you find yourself on the edge of a conversation rather than the centre?
When you are new to Parkinson’s, the relevance of Speech and Language therapy isn’t obvious. But Parkinson’s can have a serious impact on the complex muscle systems that control the voice and swallowing, affecting how we communicate. If you have noticed reduced volume, clarity, and expression, then something can be done!
Come along to: “Express Yourself” classes where you can:
- Learn how communication is impacted by Parkinson’s
- Learn skills and strategies to improve speech clarity, intonation and volume
- Boost your communication confidence by practicing your new skills through short scenes, games, and role-play activities
The sessions are a lot of fun, we have enjoyed some Oscar Wilde, some Shakespeare, and of course some Panto (oh no we didn’t!)! Experience so far has been highly encouraging, with the first participants reporting benefits such as increased clarity, and improved interactions with friends and family outside of sessions.
Led by fully qualified Speech and Language Therapist, Belinda Beakhouse, who also holds an Undergraduate Degree in Drama, classes are programmed in blocks of six, with the first session laying the foundation for what follows.
The next block will be starting on Wednesday 12 November 2025, at Radstock Community Centre from 2.15pm to 3.45pm.
If you are interested, please contact [email protected], or Belinda Beakhouse at [email protected].
