Exercise as Medicine

Research has shown that regular, moderate to vigorous physical activity can help relieve some of the motor symptoms of Parkinson’s, as well as improving overall mental and physical wellbeing.

Exercise is medicine. The benefits of this medicine are all of the above plus stronger muscles, better posture and a healthy dose of endorphins. All good!

Hosted at Thornbury Leisure Centre, this specialist exercise class, which runs on Thursdays at 11:30am and 12:30pm, allows people with Parkinson's to experience exercise in a managed way, supervised by a specialist, senior, neurological physiotherapist. Classes involve 30 minutes in the gym using equipment, following a personally tailored programme, and a 30 minutes circuit training activity.

Activities can involve sitting and standing and can be adapted to individual needs.

The cost is £5.40 per 1 hour session.
