Dance for Parkinson's, Greenock
The Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland programme is a joint initiative managed by Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance and Scottish Ballet, Scotland's National Dance Company, and delivered in partnership with Parkinson's UK.
Beacon Arts Centre is delighted to be hosting a weekly dance class designed especially for people living with Parkinson’s, their families and carers.
These classes are suitable for people with no dance experience and will develop confidence and creativity, whilst addressing Parkinson’s specific concerns such as: balance, flexibility and coordination. The class is accompanied by a live pianist. The session is followed by tea/coffee, cake and a blether!
Dancers who attend the classes report the social café as a great way to meet other people with Parkinson’s and their families and in doing so, create community and understanding for how it is to live with Parkinson’s, share resources, and make lasting friendships.
Dancers are invited to take off their shoes for the class, although it is not essential. Please wear comfortable clothing. Water is provided. Carers are encouraged to join for free, however some carers enjoy meeting each other and sharing a cuppa and a chat in our café downstairs, or have some time to themselves. We have 2 dance instructors and volunteers at hand to help anyone who needs extra support with mobility. The class takes place in our tranquil gallery suite looking over the Clyde towards the mountains. Our building is fully accessible.
This is a drop-in class and can be paid for on the day at box office. The cost is £5 per class, carer goes free.
