Boxing for People with Parkinson's
We are proud to deliver inclusive, supportive boxing fitness sessions specifically designed for people living with Parkinson’s.
Our sessions focus on improving movement, balance, coordination, mobility, confidence and overall wellbeing in a safe, welcoming and non-intimidating environment.
The sessions use non-contact boxing training adapted to suit individual abilities and needs. Participants can expect a mixture of gentle boxing drills, balance and coordination exercises, mobility work, cardiovascular activity and functional movement patterns designed to help maintain physical independence and encourage regular movement.
Sessions are delivered at a pace that prioritises safety, encouragement and enjoyment, with regular rest opportunities and adaptations available throughout.
Beyond the physical benefits, the sessions also provide an important social and community space. We understand that living with Parkinson’s can sometimes feel isolating, so we aim to create an environment where participants feel supported, encouraged and part of a team. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and positive, with plenty of opportunity for conversation, peer support and social connection before and after sessions. (We go to the Costa cafe after the session for coffee and cake!)
Ability Level
The sessions are suitable for a wide range of abilities and fitness levels, including complete beginners with no previous boxing or exercise experience. Activities are adapted individually wherever possible, and participants are encouraged to work at their own pace. The sessions are primarily aimed at people with mild to moderate mobility and balance capability, however we always encourage anyone interested to get in touch to discuss their individual needs.
What Participants Can Expect
Participants can expect a welcoming, supportive and community-focused group environment. Sessions are focused on movement, fitness, confidence and enjoyment rather than competition. Coaches provide encouragement and adaptations throughout, helping participants feel comfortable and included regardless of experience or fitness level.
Clothing & Equipment Requirements
Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise and supportive trainers with good grip/non-slip soles. We recommend bringing a bottle of water to stay hydrated during the session. All boxing equipment required for the activity is provided by South Downs ABC.
Partners & Carers
Partners, carers and support workers are very welcome to attend sessions. We understand the importance of support networks and are happy for carers to stay, join in or assist participants where appropriate.
Venue Access Information
Sessions take place at the Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill, which has accessible parking, step-free access and accessible toilet facilities. We aim to ensure the environment is as accessible and welcoming as possible for all participants.
