Boxing for Parkinson's

These non-combat boxing classes are led by ex-professional boxer Ryan Ashworth.

Classes cost £5 per person. All equipment is provided, and booking is essential.

Ryan is an experienced coach, who gained knowledge of Parkinson's after both his Grandfather and Uncle were diagnosed with the condition. Ryan set up the Westway Boxing Club in 2019, and offers coaching that directly benefits the community around him.

The classes are designed for people who are living with Parkinson's. All classes are adapted to the abilities of the participants, with people sitting or standing according to their symptoms. Participants should wear loose-fitting clothing that they are comfortable moving around in.

Boxing therapy has been shown to help people living with Parkinson's to:

  • Increase strength
  • Improve hand-eye coordination and reaction time - your brain and body
communication is being worked on continuously
  • Improve posture and postural stability
  • Improve balance and agility
  • Improve core strength and increase general fitness
  • Lastly but not least, enjoy the camaraderie of the group and gain a sense of
    accomplishment.

Friends and Carers are welcome to observe the classes. The Boxing Club is in a residential area with ample on-street parking. People often stay for a cup of tea or coffee following the classes.

There are two classes and booking is essential. Please contact Sue or David for more details.
